Power was restored to the west side of the 1500 block of Webster Street at approximately 5:15 pm on the evening of December 22, 2011. Replacing a damaged pole in the area necessitated that AMP shut down power for about 6 hours. Approximately 10 customers were affected.

The Planned Power Outage repairs in a neighborhood on Bay Farm Island have been completed as of 2:18 pm and the system is operating normally. Repairs were necesary after an equipment failure on the evening of January 15th. About 125 customers were affected.

At the November 21, 2011 meeting of the Alameda Municipal Power Public Utilities Board, there is a report on the consent calendar regarding the process of undergrounding utilities within Alameda. The report includes information and recommendations for redesigning that general process, establishing associated financing options, developing community and neighborhood involvement programs, and specific recommendations regarding Underground District 31 and Phase 6 of the master undergrounding schedule.

The Federal government has released new standards for incandescent light bulbs, beginning with banning the traditional 100 watt bulb. In a move to encourage energy efficiency, traditional incandescent bulbs will be replaced with newly designed,more efficient lower watt bulbs. In the following years, 75, 60 and 40 watt bulbs will also undergo the same treatment and be replaced by lower wattage models.

On April 12, 2011, Governor Brown signed into law Senate Bill (SB) 1X2, establishing a new Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) of 33% by 2020 for all load serving entities in California. Alameda Municipal Power (AMP), as a public utility, is covered under the new law.

October 6, 2011: An electric outage in South Alameda (general boundries: Broadway, Shoreline, and Laguna Vista) occurred at 3:00 AM on Thursday, October 6, affecting approximately 900 customers. Power was restored at 5:15 AM. The cause of the outage is being investigated.

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California has granted a summary judgment in favor of the City of Alameda on the $15 million in claims brought against it by two major investors in the City's previously owned telecommunications system. By granting summary judgment, the Court agreed with the City of Alameda that the claims made by the investors were without merit, and the City owes them no money.

Last night at the regular meeting of the City of Alameda's Public Utilities Board, the Board approved an overall rate adjustment where the average residential customer can expect to see a $1.92 increase in their monthly bill and commercial customer impacts will vary depending on use. The 3.85% rate adjustment for Alameda Municipal Power customers is effective July 1, 2011 and represents the second year in a five-year rate plan approved by the Board last year that addressed the need to increase rates in order to ensure reliability and protect AMP and its customers from sudden changes in the supply and cost of electricity.

The City of Alameda's Public Utilities Board will host its Annual Planning Workshop - Finance and Budget next Monday, April 18, at 6:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers, City Hall. At its regular monthly meeting immediately following, staff will present a rate recommendation to the Board in support of the Fiscal Year 2012 budget.

AMP's investigation of an outage affecting 15,000 customers April 5 has revealed that a squirrel crossed lines in the vicinity of Oak Street and Lincoln Avenue, resulting in the operation of system protective equipment. A related, secondary event at Park Street and Clement Avenue is still under investigation. The April 5 press release follows.

Alameda, California, April 5, 2011 - Power was restored within 12 minutes to the approximate 15,000 Alameda Municipal Power customers affected by an outage this morning.
At this time, the cause of the outage remains under investigation; however, the focus of AMP's attention includes lines in the area of Park Street and Clement Avenue.
