City Manager John Russo Appoints Interim General Manager for AMP

City Manager John Russo has appointed Ronald Stassi to serve as the Interim General Manager (GM) for Alameda Municipal Power beginning January 2, 2014. AMP’s current General Manager, Girish Balachandran, is taking the GM position in the City of Riverside.

Small Power Outage on December 20

Alameda Municipal Power experienced a small power outage on Friday evening - December 20th. 
The outage, affecting about 100 customers,  began at 5:30 pm in the Maitland/Camelia area on Bay Farm Island. Power was restored to all customers at 7:20 pm. 
Today, 12/21/13, an AMP crew will be repairing equipment related to last night's outage. Customers affected by this repair work, will be notified by the AMP crew.

General Manager Balachandran Leaving for Riverside Public Utilities

Girish Balachandran has been hired to serve as the General Manager of the City of Riverside’s Public Utilities (RPU). RPU is seven times larger than Alameda Municipal Power, has 107,500 electric customers and 64,600 water customers. The utility budget is $326 million and it has 652 approved positions. His last day in Alameda will be January 3.

City Replacing Traffic Signal Street Lights with Energy Efficient LED Lights

AMP and the city’s Public Works Department have partnered to replace 251 existing high pressure sodium street lights at 82 traffic signal intersections with energy-efficient LEDs (light-emitting diodes), saving the city an estimated $26,000 per year in electric costs and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.

AMP Celebrates Public Power Week with Light Bulb Giveaway

Every October, Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) takes part in a week-long national celebration of public power’s hometown advantages along with 2,000 other community-owned electric utilities. This year, AMP is celebrating Public Power Week by giving away free energy-saving compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) to Alameda residents during the week of Monday, Oct. 7 through Friday, Oct. 11.

Court Affirms Complete Dismissal of Securities Lawsuit Against City of Alameda in Telecom Lawsuit 

Following five years of federal court litigation brought against the City of Alameda by a major national securities firm, the United States Court of Appeal for the Ninth Circuit affirmed in full the decision of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California granting summary judgment in favor of the City on all claims brought against it.

Power Outage Restoration - July 22, 2013

07/22/13 - 12:31 PM - All power has been restored on the 500 block of Buena Vista Ave.  The 33 minute outage affected approximately 140 customers. The cause of the outage was a mylar balloon.

07/17/13 - A power outage in the general area of Central and Ballena occurred this morning between 9:54 AM and 11:51 AM.  Approximately 500 customers were affected. All customers once again have power.

At its regular meeting on July 15, the City of Alameda’s Public Utilities Board welcomed a new member to the Board: Alameda resident Ann McCormick. Ms. McCormick was appointed to the Board by the City Council at its June 6 meeting.

Brief Outage on Bay Farm Island

There was a brief power outage this morning on Bay Farm Island affecting approximately 5,000 customers. The outage began at 9:26 AM and power was restored at 9:30 am. The cause of the outage is under investigation.

Public Utilities Board Approves 2014 Budget

At its regular meeting on June 24, the City of Alameda’s Public Utilities Board approved Alameda Municipal Power’s (AMP) $64.8 million budget for fiscal year 2014. The Board also approved a transfer of $2.8 million to the City of Alameda’s General Fund.

Public Utilities Board Approves Rate Adjustment 

The City of Alameda’s Public Utilities Board (Board) voted 5-0 to approve the fourth year of Alameda Municipal Power’s (AMP) five-year rate adjustment plan for all customers. The average overall rate increase of 3.25 percent is effective July 1, 2013.

Recent Survey Ranks AMP among Top in State in Customer Satisfaction

ALAMEDA, Calif.  – Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) has received one of the top residential customer satisfaction ratings of electric utilities in the state, according to a recent survey conducted by RKS Research & Consulting. AMP’s overall customer satisfaction score of 88 percent surpassed the average “very satisfied” score of 64 percent received by investor-owned utilities and the average “very satisfied” score of 66 percent among municipal utilities.

Electric Rate Changes Proposed for July 1

At its April 15 meeting, the Public Utilities Board (Board) will consider a recommendation to increase electric rates for commercial and residential customers by an average of 3.25 percent effective July 1, 2013. This will be the fourth year of the Board’s five-year rate adjustment plan, which was conceptually approved in 2010 to ensure strong fiscal responsibility and reliable service as well as protect Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) and its customers from sudden rate spikes due to higher power and transmission costs, lower electricity demand, and increased operating expenses.
