Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) joined with Alameda Mayor Trish Spencer and private-sector partners to celebrate the completion of a major solar project at Harbor Bay Pkwy on Friday, Dec. 16. AMP has provided the project with $200,000 to date through its solar rebate program.

AMP Warns Customers of New Phone Scam

Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) is warning customers of a scam targeting its customers. AMP has recently received reports that a caller is telling customers that AMP needs to be paid at the closest Safeway or electric service will be stopped.

Help Alameda Municipal Power Develop Fair Solar Rates

One of the issues we are facing at our next Public Utilities Board (PUB) meeting is how to fairly pay rooftop solar customers for the excess energy they send to the grid. In Alameda, about 350 people have rooftop solar on their homes, representing about 1 percent of Alameda Municipal Power’s (AMP) 35,000 customers. It’s a complicated issue, and one that affects all Alamedans who pay an electric bill.

ALAMEDA, Calif. — Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) is hosting a heating workshop on Nov. 16 to help Alamedans stay warm and save energy at home this winter. Attendees will come away from the workshop with retrofitting tips, inexpensive options for keeping warm, and an understanding of how heating works in their homes.

Alameda Municipal Power Invited to Participate in Fleet Week

ALAMEDA, Calif. — Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) will educate the public on its potential roles in emergencies in an exercise led by the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) as part of San Francisco Fleet Week. AMP will participate in MARAD’s open house and emergency response demo at Pier 50 in San Francisco from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 8.

Locally Owned Utility Celebrates Public Power Week, Local Green Businesses

ALAMEDA, Calif. — During the first week of October, Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) will take part in a weeklong national celebration of public power’s benefits along with 2,000 other community-owned electric utilities. To recognize Public Power Week, October 2-8, AMP will host a Shop Clean & Local week and honor the local businesses that participate in its voluntary green energy program.

Alameda Municipal Power Customers Make Solar Program a Success

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The remaining funds in a $4.2 million solar rebate program for Alameda Municipal Power’s (AMP) commercial and residential customers have been committed to a local solar project, demonstrating the community’s support of clean, sustainable and renewable power. Harbor Bay One LLC’s solar project recently became the final project to reserve the solar program funding.

AMP’s Front Parking Lot Under Construction in Late July

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The front lot of Alameda Municipal Power’s Service Center at 2000 Grand Street will be unavailable for parking from Friday, July 22 through Saturday, July 23. During this time, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and payment boxes located in the parking lot will also be inaccessible.

ALAMEDA, Calif. – Glenn Steiger, the general manager of Alameda Municipal Power (AMP), has announced his retirement effective September 2. Steiger has served as general manager of Alameda’s community-owned utility since 2014.

New Board to Begin Planning for Undergrounding Power Lines

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The city of Alameda’s “undergrounding” program, in which overhead power lines and equipment are moved underground, is the focus of a new District Nomination Board. Composed of four members of the public and one member from the Public Works Department, the Board will hold its kick-off meeting on June 30.

Alameda Municipal Power Wins National “Top 10” Ranking for Green Power Program

ALAMEDA, Calif. – Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) has earned a national ranking for green utility programs from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). AMP’s “Alameda Green” program made NREL’s “Top 10” list for its high participation rate in 2015.

Alameda's Public Utilities Board Sets July Electric Rate Changes

Starting July 1, changes to electricity rates will go into effect for residential and commercial customers in the City of Alameda. At its April 18 meeting, the Public Utilities Board approved a 5 percent overall rate increase to help replace aging infrastructure while maintain­ing reliable service for customers. The rate changes also address increased transmission and power supply costs.

Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) has won a first-place statewide award for a program focused on reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. In the 2016 Resource Efficiency and Community Service awards competition, the California Municipal Utilities Association (CMUA) recognized AMP as the top winner in its size category.
